Tribute


The convention will feature a brief segment honouring the vision, scholarship, and legacy of the esteemed scholar Justice Pir Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari (ra), who was born in 1918 and passed away in 1998. An eminent graduate of Al-Azhar University, founder of a renowned Dar al-‘Ulum, former Justice of the Shari‘ah Appellate Bench at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and author of Tafsir Diya’ al-Qur’an and the award-winning Sirat Diya’ al-Nabi, he was widely known as Diya’ al-Ummat (Luminary of the Community).

Throughout the transformative 20th century, Justice Pir Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari (ra) pioneered the development of  religious 

thought in Islam, producing significant results and paving the way for future Islamic scholars and thinkers. His work ensured they remained relevant to their environment and capable of relating the message of guidance to their world.

One of his notable students is Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada, the founder of Jamia Al-Karam, whose institution bears his teacher’s name. Shaykh Pirzada’s own scholarship, writings, and teachings continue to provide much-needed counsel within the British Muslim context.
